Most of us type Hindi in English letters: aaj office nahi aaunga. It is fast, and friends read it without trouble. But some messages need real Hindi: a note to your parents, a WhatsApp status, a school group, or a form that asks for Hindi. Typing on a Hindi keyboard is slow if you don’t use one every day.
Here is a quicker way: keep typing the way you chat, and let AksharKosh turn it into Devanagari.
Step by step
- Open aksharkosh.com on your phone or computer. No app to install, and no sign-up for the first 3,000 words a day.
- Type your message in Hinglish, for example: aaj office nahi aaunga, tabiyat thik nahi hai
- The Hindi appears as you type: आज ऑफिस नहीं आऊंगा, तबियत ठीक नहीं है
- Press Copy and paste it into WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram or an email.
A few more examples, exactly as AksharKosh writes them:
- mummy khana kha liya? → मम्मी खाना खा लिया?
- kal subah 9 baje milte hai → कल सुबह 9 बजे मिलते हैं
- sorry yaar late ho gaya → सॉरी यार लेट हो गया
When a word comes out wrong
Some Hinglish words can mean two things. kal is both “yesterday” and “tomorrow”, but the spelling is the same, so that one is easy. Others are harder: kaha can be कहा (said) or कहाँ (where). AksharKosh picks the likelier word from the words around it (usne kya kaha → उसने क्या कहा, tum kaha ho → तुम कहाँ हो) and highlights the ones it is less sure about.
Click (or tap) any Hindi word to see the other spellings and pick the one you meant. The rest of the sentence stays as it is.
Fix है, हैं and हूँ in one tick
In chat we type h or hai for everything. Tick Fix grammar and AksharKosh chooses है, हैं or हूँ to match the sentence:
- hum log aa rahe h → हम लोग आ रहे हैं
- mai thik hu → मैं ठीक हूँ
English words in your message
Words like office, late or sorry are written the way Hindi speakers say them: ऑफिस, लेट, सॉरी. If you want a word to stay in English letters, type it in CAPITALS and tick Keep capitals as typed: mera PAN card kho gaya becomes मेरा PAN कार्ड खो गया.
How much is free
Everyday messages fit easily in the free limits: 3,000 words a day without signing in, and 20,000 words a day with a free account. If you write a lot, or want to convert whole .txt and .docx files, see the pricing page.
Got Hindi you need in Hinglish instead? The Hindi to Hinglish converter works the other way round: मैं घर जा रहा हूँ becomes main ghar ja raha hoon.
